Comparison
VuloMail vs Post SMTP.
Post SMTP gives away more than most freemium plugins: the free version has an email log, single resend, a fallback mailer, a spam-score DNS check, and alerts by email, Slack, Pushover or a Chrome extension. Microsoft 365, Amazon SES, open tracking and SMS alerts via Twilio are paid. VuloMail matches the free core and adds SMS for WooCommerce stores and customers.

Strengths
Where each one wins.
We list theirs first. If one of these matters most to you, it should decide it.
- A mobile app and Chrome extension for watching delivery away from WordPress.
- Gmail through Google's API with OAuth in the free version; VuloMail's Gmail preset uses an app password.
- A DKIM check alongside SPF and DMARC. VuloMail checks SPF and DMARC and leaves DKIM to your provider's dashboard.
- Paid extras VuloMail doesn't have: open tracking, automatic retries, email batching and a weekly health report.
- On WordPress.org since 2017, with 300,000 active installs and 528 reviews averaging 4.7 out of 5.
- Microsoft 365 and Amazon SES work in the free plugin; Post SMTP needs a paid plan for both.
- SMS alerts for your site and store, and order updates texted to customers, without a Twilio extension licence.
- If both connections fail, WordPress's own mailer can still try as a last resort.
- Privacy defaults: bodies aren't stored unless you opt in, recipients can be masked, and VuloMail contacts no vendor server.
Verdict
Which one should you pick?
Choose Post SMTP if
- You want to monitor delivery from a phone app or browser extension.
- You'll pay for open tracking, retries or batching.
Choose VuloMail if
- You send through Microsoft 365 or Amazon SES and don't want a paid plan just for that.
- You run WooCommerce and want SMS alerts and customer texts in the same plugin.
Switching
Moving from Post SMTP.
Add the same account
Add the provider you use in Post SMTP as a VuloMail connection. Nothing changes until you set it as primary.
Set it as primary
Optionally add a backup connection, so a second provider takes over if the first fails.
Send a test
Tools → Send a test email goes through live routing. Diagnostics confirms your SPF and DMARC records.
Deactivate Post SMTP
Two plugins handling the same email compete for it. VuloMail's Diagnostics flags any it recognises.
